Bryan Pirolli holds a Ph.D. from Université Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3 where he defended his thesis on travel journalism and taught media to French undergraduate and masters students. He moved to the UK to teach media at Birkbeck-University of London and London College of Communication, and then to New York to teach at LIM College and NYU. He joined the Department of French at Columbia in 2021 as a language instructor.
A storyteller by trade, Bryan spent nearly a decade working in the tourism industry, even starting his own tour company in Paris. He contributed as a travel and news writer to publications including CNN, DK Eyewitness, and Thrillist. His book, Travel Journalism: Informing Tourists in the Digital Age (Routledge 2019), blends his professional experience and PhD research while in France.
