Welcome (Department Chair)

Professor Emmanuelle Saada, French Department Chair

The Department of French at Columbia University is one of the oldest and most distinguished French departments in the United States. Throughout its history, it has promoted student and faculty exchanges with France’s elite institutions of higher education, including the École Normale Supérieure and the Collège de France.Adding to its historical strengths in philology, literary history and theory, over the last two decades the Department has expanded its scope to embrace interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching and established itself as a leading center of Francophone studies.
