Priscilla Parkhurst Ferguson (1940-2018)

Priscilla Parkhust Ferguson, a graduate of Mount Holyoke College (1962), received her PhD in French from Columbia in 1967. She taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 1979 to 1989 and joined the Columbia faculty in 1989. She was professor of French and sociology from 1989 to 1997, and professor of sociology from 1998 until her retirement. She was the author of several books including  Literary France: The Making of a Culture (1984), Paris as Revolution: Reading the 19th-century City (1994), Accounting for Taste: The triumph of French cuisine (2004), and Word of Mouth (2014). She passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018.
