This series addresses representations of Blackness in French cinema, with a focus on women’s trajectories, either of film characters or of the filmmakers themselves. 2pm New York City Premiere: Ouvrir la Voix (Speak Up) Response by Director Amandine Gay and Maboula Soumahoro, Université de Tours The series, Blackness in French and Francophone Film, is curated by Nora Philippe and co-presented by Columbia Maison Française as a complement to the exhibition, Posing Modernity: The Black Model from Manet and Matisse to Today. The exhibition is on view at the Wallach Art Gallery from October 24, 2018 through February 10, 2019 and curated by Denise Murrell, PhD, Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the Wallach Art Gallery.
