In this conversation about Faat Kiné, a 2001 film directed by Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembene, Mariama Baldé, a Senegalese actress who plays a role in this film, and who previously studied the films of Ousmane Sembene, joins with Columbia Professors Souleymane Bachir Diagne and Mamadou Diouf in a conversation moderated by Nora Philippe.

Souleymane Bachir Diagne is Professor of French and Philosophy at Columbia University. Mamadou Dioufis a Professor of History at Columbia University. Both are originally from Senegal, and familiar with the works of Ousmane Sembene, whose films often provide a window on life in contemporary Senegal. Faat Kiné is "another chapter in the writer-director’s laser-sharp commentary of post-independence in Senegal." A full review of the film and discussion of Sembene's oeuvre can be read here.
