A Conversation in French about films by Paulin Vieyra, with Stéphane

Stéphane Vieyra, son of Beninese/Senegalese filmmaker Paulin Soumanou Vieyra, joins Columbia Professors Souleymane Bachir Diagne and Mamadou Diouf to discuss Africa on the Seine and other short documentary films made by Vieyra, considered the first sub-Saharan African film director. Their discussion, moderated by Nora Philippe, will explore his films, produced between 1955 and 1981, as a key oeuvre of this period of African independence and nation-building. 

Four short films by Paulin Vieyra are being presented by the Columbia Maison Française online from March 14 through March 21:  Africa on the SeineL'Envers du décorA Nation is Born, and Lamb.
