Join Claus Drexel to talk about his beautiful and impressive documentary film, The Edge of the World (please click here to get access to the film). This documentary is a tableau of testimonies from Paris’ homeless community. The film’s focus isn’t so much the social and political causes/ramifications of widespread homelessness across the French capital as it is the phenomenon of being dispossessed itself — as told by those at the very bottom. Filming exclusively at night — but for an irresistibly moving final shot — Drexel documents these people as if they are the only inhabitants on earth. …
This conversation with Claus Drexel will be introduced by Shanny Peer, Director of the Columbia Maison Française, and moderated by Frédéric Viguier. Frédéric Viguier is the Director of NYU's Institute of French Studies. A sociologist whose research interests include inequalities in France and the social policies aimed at addressing them, whose books include La Cause des pauvres en France (Presses de Sciences Po, April 2020).
This event is co-sponsored by The Institute of French Studies and Columbia Maison Française.
