This year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of French author Marcel Proust. Professor Antoine Marcel Compagnon, a preeminent Proust scholar, was the curator of several important exhibitions in Paris during this anniversary year, and in this talk he takes us through two of these exhibitions, with words and images: Marcel Proust, la fabrique de l'oeuvre, on exhibition at the Bibliotheque nationale de France (October 11, 2022 - January 22, 2023); and Marcel Proust: du côté de la mère at the Musée d'histoire d'art et du Judaïsme (April 14 - August 28, 2022).
Antoine Compagnon is the Blanche W. Knopf Professor of French and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. He was also the Chair of Modern and Contemporary French Literature at the Collège de France from 2005 to 2020. in 2022, he was elected to the Académie française. Professor Compagnon is the author of some twenty-five books, including several works on Marcel Proust and, most recently, La Vie derrière soi, about the relationship between creativity and old age.
