Panel discussion in French with Selma Hellal, Chokri Mabkhout, Thierry Grillet, Alex Gil, moderated by Madeleine Dobie Today the publishing of books in French confronts new challenges even as the industry's geographic horizons are expanding far beyond France. In this roundtable discussion, editors, writers and cultural administrators from France, Algeria and Tunisia explore the contemporary landscape of French book publishing, distribution and reading. Selma Hellal is Editor-in-chief and co-founder of the visionary Algerian publishing house, Éditions Barzakh. Chokri Mabkhout, Director of Foire internationale du livre de Tunis and former Rector of the Université de Manouba. Mabkhout's own debut novel, The Italian, won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction. Thierry Grillet, Directeur des affaires culturelles, Bibliothèque nationale de France, is the author of numerous books on contemporary culture. Alex Gil is Digital Scholarship Librarian at Columbia. Madeleine Dobie is Professor of French at Columbia.
